简介

Felton Pilate is a member and co-lead singer of 1980s Bay-Area hit R&B-fusion-sound band Con Funk Shun. He has an encyclopedic music mind, can read and write complex music as well as sight sing from reading music sheets, unlike most popular-music musicians from Rock to C&W to R&B and Hip-hop/rap. Felton, the son of a medical doctor, hails from Vallejo, CA, and was regarded as a child prodigy. He plays the piano, keyboard, guitar and saxophone, as well as sings and arranges song orchestration. When he was a boy he belonged to an acclaimed youth music group in Vallejo named The Minnie Singers. As a producer and private music studio engineer, his clients have included Whitney Houston at the start of her career, Pebbles of the hit song Girlfriend, pioneer hit rapper Dougie Fresh and MC Hammer, aka Hammer -- the latter for whom he was music director and lead band performer during Hammer's ascent to the pinnacle of music celebrity and his near sweep of Grammy and AMA music awards. Documentation on the internet reports that Felton and a James Early, his partner co-producer of Hammer and the Hammer act, withdrew their services from Hammer and successfully sued Hammer for lack of due compensation, but indicates this was to no actual benefit as a result of Hammer's liquidation bankruptcy filing. Before Hammer's financial problems came to light, a whole-page article on Felton appeared in mainstream Bay-Area newspapers in the early 1990s identifying him as "the powerhouse" behind Hammer. Felton has remained active in the music community as a performer with Con Funk Shun in neo-Soul concerts worldwide, as an adviser to aspiring musicians at music fairs, and, as always, as a music producer and private music studio engineer. He also has a music website. In conjunction with permission granted by Fantasy Records of Berkeley, CA, for W.C. Davis to use Felton's voice, as a favor to a frustrated aspiring songwriter W.C. Davis (who had been through the gauntlet of ripoff and incompetent singers, music arrangers and music studio engineers), while providing competent, corrective music services for W.C. Davis, Felton volunteered his voice to W.C. Davis, at the solicitation of W.C. Davis, for nominal, normal charges for W.C. Davis to progress with his music. At their last meeting, he surprisingly showed up at a music studio to record the Heart of Gold vocals, and left saying that if the songs (that he had volunteered his voice on) make it, "you can call me." He would not accept payment for this service. These songs, It's a Beautiful Day and Heart, Heart -- Heart of Gold (the ensemble and solo versions), have been a labor of love for W.C. Davis, who says that when the remixes/remakes of these songs (with W.C. Davis, who had no prior mix engineering experience, taking over at the mixing board as mix co-engineer) were completed, associates of his were bidding up to $20.00 for a one-off CD copy of It's a Beautiful Day alone. W.C. relented in some instances and gave away a free copy of that song, but said that he "would sell no wine before its time." With a welcoming wide-open market for independent music exposure, distribution and sales via the rise of the internet, that time has come and is now! And the songs are affordably priced for everybody. However, It's a Beautiful Day will be free for probably 6 months to a year. The CD includes respectively on the outside window and inside of its jewel case the poems Love Supreme (dedicated to music great John Coltrane) and Sun Goddess. W.C. Davis is infinitely and eternally grateful to Felton Pilate and wishes to reward him with the success of these songs and a generous share of financial proceeds coming from them. W.C. Davis is the producer of three short albums, including Euphoria, Rap Daddy and Last Jams of the Fly Generation, collectively titled Archives of Love Trilogy of Euphoria, Rap Daddy and Joygirl CD Music Set, and is working on new material.
