简介
“Sweet, charming and always playful” ~ X-Press Magazine “Once Rachel Gorman whispers, everyone within a kilometre radius freezes from the flowery season of summer kept in her voice” ~ Space Ship News Twenty five year old Fremantle quirk-folk songstress Rachel Gorman has forged a steady following in WA, charming audiences with her honest storytelling, thoughtful lyrics and playful melodies. Drawing on her coastal roots, Irish heritage and rural upbringing, her music tells of lost loves, pirates, pigeons and kite-flying, with the occasional haiku thrown in for good measure. As front woman for up-and-comers Rachel & Henry Climb a Hill, she has received acclaim for her songwriting, winning WAM Folk Song of the Year in 2010 for her song “The Silver Yacht” and was nominated again in 2012 for “Old Brown Piano”. As a soloist and with the band, Rachel has shared stages with acts such as Basement Birds, The Panda Band, Blue King Brown, Operator Please, Red Jezebel, Sticky Fingers, Cut Off Your Hands and Clare Bowditch. Rachel was even invited onstage to sing a duet with Clare, and sang Julia Stone’s part on the “Bus Stop” song with the Basement Birds. After the release of a highly successful EP and debut album with the band, songs from which received national and regional airplay, Rachel has now recorded her debut EP as a solo artist, entitled “Ramblings & Rhetoric”. A beautiful, fragile yet joyful collection of songs written over a number of years, the EP shows Rachel at her simple, honest best, flitting between genres like a songwriting butterfly. Recorded with Noah Shilkin at Sonic Lolly in Margaret River and mastered by William Bowden at King WIlly Sound (Gotye, Paul Dempsey, Bob Evans), the honest lyrics and sweet, pure voice of the songs on the EP make it a captivating listen. The EP will be launched as part of Perth Fringeworld in February 2013, at the Old Lauder & Howard Building in East Fremantle. This old antiques showroom will be transformed into a beautiful, intimate space especially for this special event. As a performer, Rachel is open and honest, with her cheeky sense of humour often shining through on stage.
