简介

Andy (“A.J.”) Gundell is a musician, composer, songwriter, music supervisor/director, music library creator/owner, and producer of many varied talents. He has that rare, versatile ability to create music and sound to picture, script, and library for TV, film, Internet, advertising, and musical theater…for commercial and broadcast usages…. for other singers and recording artists… and for himself as a singer/songwriter/producer and recording artist. Andy has won thirteen Emmy awards—most recently, two for the public television docu-drama “Voices in Conflict,” and an unsurpassed three in the Outstanding Original Song category. The others are for his original scores as a composer, his audio-post sound design and production, and his work as a music director/supervisor in the category of Music Direction and Composition for dramatic productions. He’s composed for dozens of TV broadcasters and media clients, including ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Fox, ESPN, MTV, NBA-TV, HBO, Disney, Discovery, Reader’s Digest, Marvel, A T & T and more, as well as for the “Cosby” sitcom, as co-composer with Cosby himself. He spent 15 years at ABC’s “All My Children” as a staff music director/composer–and leading contributor to five Emmys, as a member of the distinguished AMC music composing/directing team. In tandem with AMC, Andy worked for several years as Composer/Executive Music Producer at Tonic, a state of the art audio-post and music house—where he initially created and is now the owner of an industry-leading boutique library of indie songs for licensing to the visual media called the Tonic Song Library. Noteworthy credits as a composer/songwriter/producer include the recent Main Title theme for the “World Series of Fighting,” a new mixed martial arts program and continuing series airing on the NBC Sports Network; multiple Tonic Song Library cues placed with the WSOF through show producer Tupelo Honey/Raycom; promos for MTV, including “Fantasy Factory,” part of their Sunday night lineup of circus-related shows; all three main show themes for the launch of the National Basketball Association’s cable channel, NBA-TV; multiple placements with co-writer/recording artist Kim Taylor of the song “I Am You” on CBS’s “Flashpoint” and “The Bold and the Beautiful”; a Christmas song performed by the cast of “Beauty and The Beast” for a holiday CD by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS; Professional Bowler’s Tour Main Title theme for ESPN; and a collaboration with South African songwriter and #1 recording artist James Stewart and Nobel peace prize winner Desmond Tutu for the international release of “Prayer,” theme song co-composed by Gundell/Stewart and Grammy winner Julie (“From A Distance”) Gold, for the Tutu AIDS Foundation. Innovative projects include an audio/video English language learning product and software for Reader’s Digest called English20, for which Andy composed an original music score for 120 scenes, recorded 25,000 lines of audio VO, produced the sound design and final mix, and created 12 hour-long companion CD’s–much of it from his state of the art ProTools recording facility–and then produced and directed website promotional video testimonials about the product on location; and the nationally acclaimed off-Broadway student production of the Iraqi war documentary play “Voices in Conflict,” performed at the Public Theater in NYC and then produced by Connecticut Public Television—for which Andy garnered Emmy wins for composer and audio-post director, and a nomination for Best Arts and Entertainment Show producer. In a career spanning over 35 years as a singer-songwriter and recording artist, A.J. has produced a compilation of his greatest TV hits called “Love On The Air,” released as a CD by PolyGram/Universal and as a songbook by Cherry Lane Music, as well as his own independent releases. This album, “Collection,” was called “a hidden treasure” by legendary rock ‘n roll DJ Pete Fornatale on his WFUV show “Mixed Bag,” and is available on CD Baby as well as via digital download from the web—as is the AJG-produced CD for his band Exit 43. He was the vocalist for two of his three Original Song Emmys. His music has been recorded by such classic and contemporary country-recording artists as Kathy Mattea, Crystal Gayle, and Don Williams–and his catalog has been represented for the past twelve years by industry-leading independent publisher Spirit Music Group. A.J. has also played live for many years, opening for such notables as Janis Ian, Richie Havens, Lesley Gore, Marshall Crenshaw, and Jose Feliciano.
