AMiN was raised in Newark New Jersey & Brooklyn, NY. His early years were defined by a stepmother addicted to crack-coc*ine, and a father, who spent most of his time working odd jobs to support the family. AMiN often acted as the man of the house, which at the time was an abandoned building. It was there that he learned at an early age that nothing would be given to him. His origins were like many urban environments of the era, ripe with the crack infestation and resulting violence found in nearly every major city during the 1980’s. Fortunately, avoiding the trappings of his less than ideal living conditions and surroundings, AMiN gravitated to hip-hop at an early age via the classic album: “Midnight Marauders” by A Tribe Called Quest. The passion and artistry throughout the album and specifically on such songs as “Award Tour” and “Oh My God,” left an everlasting impression on the budding M.C. AMiN would go on to be heavily influenced by the likes of Nas, Notorious BIG, Jay-Z and DMX; whose music provided him with a personal connection, which is the same connection he aims to afford his audience. Ultimately however, it’s the pains, joys, turmoil and triumphs which are often associated with ghetto living that serve as the main source of inspiration in much of AMiN's music. And while the origins of his music surface from a very distinct history, his lyrical and musical versatility have drawn the likes of diverse crowds with one common interest, the love of hip hop! AMiN stated when interviewed by "http://www.ballerstatus.net" that he wants to change the image of the so called rapper and add a new status or prestige to his image. He calls himself the president of a forgotten area in society, because he wants people to view him as a positive representative of the Hood. Taking what most people look at as bad (the hood) and changing the image of it to positive! And I quote "I want people to use me as an example of what to aspire to be as a hip-hop artist". AMiN is determined to change the way minorities are being viewed through media. His songs speak of struggle, a realistic hustle, and the hunger that he has experienced.
