Famous is an EP length album of the choral music of Australian composer Katy Abbott. Many of the pieces on this album were commissioned by MLC School, Sydney and renowned Director of Music Karen Carey. The album features the voices of MLC School Senior Choir. Katy Abbott's music is heard regularly in Australia and receiving increasing attention internationally. Her choral music is vibrant, original and beautiful and engages the audience and singer. Music critic Rosalind Appleby describes Abbott's music as 'evocative and jubilant music of its time' and musicologist and composer Linda Kouvaras states 'there is an honesty in this writing that is arresting, compelling and holds the attention'. The title track 'Famous' outlines many famous Australian women including Princess Mary of Denmark, Kylie Minogue and Nicole Kidman yet the chorus strikes a chord with many Mothers: 'You may not find her in the history books, you may not see her in the news, but I would like the whole-wide-world to know, all the things she does for me, she doesn't get chased by the paparazzi. She's my Mum and she's famous to me!' (Text: Katy Abbott). The piece is sung by 150 nine and ten year olds. 'This Is My Home' is written about the bubbling Merri Creek in Melbourne's inner north, 'Eyes' with text by Jerusha Tiner speaks of love across oceans whilst 'Crime Scene Investigation' is a live performance recording, a spoof, based on the TV show of the same name. The first violinist is murdered as she swept off stage following her stage bow. Based on the evidence presented can you determine who the murderer is before the crime scene investigator? 'The Path To Your Door' sets text by popular Australian cartoonist Michael Leunig and is a pensive and heartfelt look at human connection. Artwork for the album is based on artist Matthew Quick's 'Pure Exuberance'.
