The Fall-Outs专辑介绍:by Mark DemingIt sounds like Dave Holmes has finally gotten some well-earned rest since the Fall-Outs took a nearly decade-long recording hiatus after the release of their 1994 album Sleep, but if the band sounds a bit less manic on their 2004 release Summertime, that's not to say they've mellowed much. Summertime is a more measured and polished recording than the group's previous long-players, but the prickly attitude that marked their best work is still very much in evidence, and if the tempos are a bit slower these days, there's an emotional tension and musical energy in these performances that's impossible to miss. Many of these tunes find Holmes and his partners (bassist Zaac Aubrey and drummer Dino Lencioni) indulging in their fondness for '60s-style pop, especially the jaunty "One Thought Too Much," the Byrds-ian "Out at Sea," and the horn-enhanced closer, "One and One," though those looking for the garage-accented punk of their earlier records will still find it on "Flowers for Hours" and "All In My Mind." Most importantly, Holmes still sounds cranky, frustrated, and generally out-of-sorts on these songs (even when he's claiming he feels good), and the Fall-Outs discography proves that Holmes' losses are our gains, with this batch of 13 solid tunes proving the point. Another winner from a band that really needs to go into the studio more often.
