Back in the early 90s, there were but a handful of record labels that ruled the roost when it came to house music. One such imprint was Dance Mania, the Chicago outlet founded by Jesse Saunders and run by Ray Barney. Indeed, so influential was the label that to this very day, it continues to inspire legions of DJs, producers and fans all across the globe.

The latest release from Dory Kahale's Bass United imprint sees Dirty McKenzie (Kahale's alias no less) tackle one of the label's many celebrated records with the Butterfly EP, a licensed reworking of the classic Paul Johnson track ''Let me See you Butterfly''. Filled with ghetto funk and unquestionable dancefloor gumption, it's an EP that pays homage to the label and the producer in the most respectful of ways, down to the artwork. Approved and supported by Paul Johnson, himself.
