The Brook are an indie-folk rock band from Ottawa, Ontario. Lead by Newfoundland-born songwriter Sarah Murphy, the band’s catchy, multi-dimensional sound is steeped in east coast flavour and draws influence from the likes of Hey Rosetta!, Said The Whale and Serena Ryder. Joined by bassist Robin Russell and drummer Zac Delamont, the trio has performed at the RBC Bluesfest ‘Bluesprint Series,’ Ottawa Race Weekend, won CKCU-FM’s Tuned In Contest, and shared the stage with artists such as Current Swell, Roch Voisine, Good for Grapes, Zerbin and The Royal Streets. As displayed by the title track written about the dating app Tinder, their new EP ‘Sweet Talk’ is an exploration of modern millennial relationships. Singer-songwriter Sarah Murphy observes the way in which this generation uses dishonesty and deception to sweet talk their way into people’s lives - and sheets. In tandem with the culture it questions, the EP’s sexy undertones betray a hidden desire for acceptance in an increasingly disingenuous world.
