While his name may not be familiar to many outside of Russia, Sergei Banevich is a prominent Russian choral composer. Both Banevich and Dmitry Smirnov, who rose to prominence as a Soviet composer before leaving the country and moving to London, have written choral works in the Russian "concerto" form that are performed widely in Russia by amateur and professional ensembles. This program brings together some of their most popular works, performed by one of the world's greatest youth choirs, the Petrograd (Saint Petersburg) TV & Radio Children's Choir, under the direction of Stanislav Grikhov.
