简介
Luz Piedad was born in Bogota, and she has been writing songs since childhood. Hernán Lopez, a poet from Armenia, has always enjoyed intellectual literary gatherings. Both Colombian artists meet in 1972 in Bogota after Christmas on the festivities of Epiphany, honoring the arrival of the Wise Men on January 6th. Upon Hernán’s arrival to this event, Luz Piedad is singing and playing the guitar. It was love at first sight. From the beginning he is impressed with her presence, refined posture, guitar skills and her tender voice. Hernán courts her with his poems, his romantic spirit and, above all, his sincere love. A painful condition – not terminal, but of permanent presence bonds them even more, and Hernán feels the urge to love and protect her. They marry a year later in 1973 in Bogota and start a beautiful artistic and family life together. However, due to difficult circumstances out of their control, they must separate several times: the desire of Luz Piedad’s parents to have their only child near them in the United States, Hernan’s business opportunities and legal issues concerning immigration keep them apart from the joys of life together. From the distance of this forced absence emerge the most beautiful poems and melodies. Their letters carry poetry, prose and songs in wrinkled napkins and papers in an effort to challenge time and shorten their distance. Unconsciously, Luz Piedad and Hernan weave their experiences, thoughts and lyrics in a touching musical tapestry of universal value. The final product is a deeply felt love story of “high and low tides” featuring an exquisite dialogue filled with nostalgia, frustration, longing, impotence, and the strong bond of two soul mates determined to succeed and to overcome all obstacles. In their physical absence their spirits are strengthened. The poetic tension produces an outstanding performance of two epic heroes of contemporary reality. In 1968 Luz Piedad wins a TV music contest in Colombia - Qué hace la juventud- and later would follow Componga, Cante, y Gane. These accomplishments motivate her to continue as a song writer. In 1990 she represents the State of Florida as a singer and song writer in the renown Song Festival OTI with her own composition “La Vieja.” As a co-founder of the group, Artists for Life, Love and Family, she travelled to many states of the United States presenting programs promoting the well-being and importance of family life. Luz Piedad has devoted many years to performing in stages and schools as a Montessori teacher. Her musical talents have enhanced the experiences of all her students. She carries in her veins the music and folklore of her native Colombia, and she is an outstanding ambassador through her service in cultural and educational community services. She is presently on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Epilepsy Foundation and is the founder of the Hispanic Support Group. Hernán has dedicated his professional life to the field of telecommunications in the United States since 1980. Some of his poems have been published in the Spanish Poetry Annual, in Atlanta, Georgia. His poem, Cristóbal Colón, in honor of Christopher Columbus was accepted, appreciated and praised in Barcelona’s City Hall in Spain. Both, Luz Piedad and Hernán , have been recognized throughout the years by their valuable contribution to several community entities such as: Colombian Folkloric Group, Grupo Cultura, Grupo de Teatro GALA, and the Atlanta Cuban Club.
