Why is this collection called 'Disguises'? Well… good question! For a number of years now, I have been the organist/pianist at a Norman Church. I have also been composing music for a variety of purposes for more years than I'd care to remember. Throughout my time playing at the church, I have sneaked in a number of my pieces as incidental music before and after services, including weddings and funerals! This collection contains the original arrangements, whereas I will usually play the pieces on the piano or organ. So, in most cases, they will not have sounded the same as they do here. For anyone who has been kind enough to listen to me tinkling the ivories, these pieces will appear to contain disguised versions of the music. Actually, though, the disguise is in the way I've been playing them live! Here are some notes about each of the 16 pieces in this collection: 1. Family Secrets This piece was written as the opening titles music for a murder-mystery film that has yet to come to fruition! The instrument sounds on this track were from the Vienna Symphonic Library. 2. Dieppe Dance This was written for a corporate project. It was backing music for a video that I believe was played regularly on a Ferry crossing between England and France. 3. Daughter's Day This comes from one of my Library Music CDs. It was actually composed with, in my mind, shots of a bride, on her wedding day, getting ready for the big occasion, contemplating the changes about to come and reminiscing about the past. 4. Elizabeth's Dance This is another one of my Library Music pieces. I've used it quite a lot, during the signing of the register at weddings. 5. Dreaming Yet another Library Music piece, which I usually play much slower at more sombre moments during appropriate services. 6. An Edgy Calmness This was written for a short horror film called 'My Baby'. It's used in a scene where there is calm, but something not very pleasant is about to happen. 7. Searching For Clues Music for another film that has yet to find its way 'in the can'. It's set in the future, but with a 'film-noir' feel. It's a detective story....this is the detective's theme. 8. Jig For The Rig Just one of those little ditties that crops up from time to time. 9. A Rose For Rose This is a love theme for a short film called....'Nigel The Plonker' (don't ask!). It was made in the style of a 1920's black-and-white, hence the piano-only setting. 10. Zoe's New Love The love theme from the same film mentioned in 7. above. 11. Dancey One This is the closing credits music for another short film, a comedy, called 'The Warehouse'. 12. Retracing Our Steps Some more incidental music from 'The Warehouse'. 13. I Have Faith in You An instrumental version of a song I wrote for a musical play called 'My Name Is Sally Jones?' The author of the piece was Clara Armand. 14. Gethsemane This is an extract from 'The Week That Changed The World', the Easter Passion performance piece written by Ron Ward. He very kindly asked me to come up with some music for this project. It is certainly one of the most enjoyable musical projects I've been involved with. 15. Thursdays Back to the Library Music again with this one. Imagine.....the Holiday Programme, or something like that. 16. Yvanda This is the oldest piece on the CD. I wrote this when I was about 16, I think. It's been used as a dance performance piece and, also, as on-hold music for one of the UK's largest Finance Houses. I'd like to dedicate this piece to my mum...she loves it (so she tells me).
