简介

Dent is: Reeb: guitars, vocals, background vocals, mandolin, kazoo, lyrics Glenn Winters: drums, cowbell, background vocals Justin: bass, guitar, banjo, synth, background vocals, production, engineering, mixing Dent is a band that hails from Hillsboro NH (Google it if you must). It’s beautiful to some, a shithole to others, but to us its home. We have been playing together since high school. This is a collection of songs kept in a secret vault for over 20 years. We were purposefully waiting for Grunge to be back in vogue. Perhaps this record will start that trend. These songs were recorded from 1/16 through 10/16 at a top secret location only known to members of the band. Most of these tracks were done in relatively few takes. No sense beating a dead horse; capture the moment and move on. It’s how we do. Here is some info on the tracks. Baked Potato: This song, like most of them, was written in 1994-1995. The lovely Barbara Winters was kind enough to lend her vocal talents to this track and what a difference they made. I was initially not that enthusiastic about this track but she really changed my mind and it’s one of my favorites on the record. The guitar solo is the absolute peak of my shredding ability and I am psyched that I pulled it off and got it put to tape. The organ solo on the outro is Justin. He took a rough sketch of an idea and made it beautiful. Yuppies: This song hits home. I originally wrote it about the people I worked with at the time. When it came time to record it I realized that I lost my lyrics for it. I only remembered the first verse. While writing the 2nd verse and bridge it became quite apparent that I, too, was now a yuppie. So you get a glimpse into the mind of 20-year-old me versus the me of now. We recorded the drum track to this after playing it only three times. I love the rawness of it. It feels unhinged and tight at the same time. Ill Tip: If we were releasing a single this would prolly be it. I think that even beautiful people feel ugly sometimes. Ugly people feel ugly occasionally as well. When I wrote it I was feeling uncool and not hip enough to hang with the “in” crowd. Thanks to Barb for help on the background vocals. Piss Test: I think this one is a bit straight forward; I was in the Army and I loved smoking w**d. Not a good combo. Writing this was like therapy because it really expressed the fear that I had of being piss tested. Justin pulled off the backwards guitar solo using a nearby pen as a slide. Knowing when Glenn is going to kick it in on the intro is always a challenge. Embracing the mystery keeps it fun. Friends is Great: This is a song about a girl I couldn’t have (cue people saying, “awe” and pass me a tissue). This song was the first thing we recorded for this record. It is also Justin’s baby. He came up with the sweet banjo and lap steel parts as well as the vocal treatment. Away: This is the newest song on the album. It was written around 2005. I don’t want to say what it’s about as it might hurt someone’s feelings. If you read between the lines, I think it’s fairly obvious. This one was a labor of love as there are a lot of moving parts. Justin lists this song as his favorite and it’s easy to see why; that face melting guitar solo is all him. I can’t believe he put his guitar down to play bass with us. He plays circles around me and takes our simple little tunes and complexifies them. Yes, I just made that word up. You can use it if you want. You're welcome. Lil Wang: For the record; I don’t have a small penis. Just ask the thousands of chicks I’ve banged. I think it’s pretty brave to sing this but I am confident in myself so why not? On top of that it’s pretty fucking funny. Justin’s bassline is a real ear worm. I find myself hearing it in my head long after I’ve last listened to the song. I think it’s Glenn’s fault for the silly sh*t over the guitar solo. His kids loved it so we had to keep it. I lost the battle on that one. This song grooves and I love the guitar tone. Sober When?: Remember kids; drugs are bad. My favorite part in this song is Glenn’s background vocals in the last chorus. He sounds like the adult in the room. If you crank it up, you can hear his vocal talents during the cowbell part at the beginning. He really has a gift. I am willing to bet I am not the only person that can relate to the lyrics. I think this would be a great single if not for the subject matter. Gf Like U: I wrote this about Barb. She had just come into Glenn’s stratosphere and I felt like she was stealing my best friend away. Yeah, I know, #BROMANCE. Whatevs. Needless to say we didn’t get to play this one much. For around 20 years anyway. Everything worked out in the end because they are still together and the band gets to play the song again. The fact that Barb likes the song makes me feel better. The bass and drums during the jazzy part were improvised and top notch. I could listen to the two of them play this all day. It’s such a luxury to have them as a rhythm section. Party all the Time: This song is unique to all songs on the record and not because of the kazoo solo. We always played it as a warm up song and it never had any words. I wrote the lyrics in a ten-minute burst at work a few months ago. They may or may not be truthful. I can confirm that I don’t like wine. The idea for the chorus came from Glenn who just randomly suggested that the chorus should be “party all the time”. I took it and ran with it. Can’t Complain: This one turned out to be pretty Floydesque. It didn’t start that way. The synth and keyboard solo are new things that I suggested vaguely to Justin and he worked his magic. It’s great to be able to just scat an idea and have him bust out some wicked sh*t (that’s two poo references if you’re counting at home). I really had to hold it down on this one as they tend to follow each other down different fills. It’s my job to just try and keep that simple riff in time as the cacophony swirls around me. I wrote this one about a friend that liked to fire it up after work every night. I had never even smoked pot before I wrote it. I tried to make it from his perspective. Remember kids; drugs are bad. Bendy: What can I say? I was super-duper sad and lonely when I wrote this. The outro jam is live and from the original drum track. We could probably play it better but I think of it as a snapshot in time and believe it should stand as it is. Thanks again to Barb for helping out on background vocals. Thanks: I would like to dedicate this album to Uncle Ed. He played with us years ago and was the first person to make me believe that I / we didn’t suck. His approval means the world to me even to this day. I would also like to thank Justin for all of his time, money, and effort to see this through to completion. All we had to do was play. He had to mix everything, record everything, and provide the tools to get it all done. We would like to thank our families for allowing us to sneak away on Friday nights to record this. It is such a privilege to be able to relax and play music on a weekly basis. It does all of us a world of good and also helps keep Alzheimer’s away. Twenty years ago we didn’t have the time or funds available to do this. We really just wanted to get these songs documented while we still could. We are proud and excited to be done and have the ability to present it to our friends. Album number two is already starting to brew. Thanks for Listening, Reeb
