They were a feature at our Live @ The Reach concert series, generating a full house and captivating the audience with great songs, stories and musicianship. I had no intention of forming a band let alone record another album. it's amazing how life takes you in so many directions. After releasing the debut album "Simple Man" in 2007, Chris and I continued playing shows as a duet. I started casually searching for other artists to jam with through sites like MySpace and Craigslist and found Dan Huget and his funky blue electric violin. After a few chats back and forth we set up a jam session and we quickly became a trio. Next we started a search for a drummer and Chris through a friend brought in Tracy Gloeckner. Not only was Tracy an accomplished drummer but also a very talented Tabla player. It's very rare to find such an artist skilled at both. Our final search was for a bass player and once again through the internet I hooked up with Bojan Bugarinovic, who also plays Sitar..bonus!!...and the band was formed. We worked hard at rehearsals and everything started to fall into place. The work load was demanding but rewarding at the same time. It was due to the time commitment required that Tracy decided he was not able to dedicate himself and also did not want to hold us back from moving forward. You are a good friend Tracy and we wish you all the best. In comes David Eadie, once again thanks to Craigslist. David plays a variety of hand drums and the kit and has been a perfect fit. David also wrote track #8 "Earth Time" on our album...yes a drummer who can write! Our highlight to date has been performing at 7 hockey games for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. We were set to play at the Paralympics and record this album directly after, but unfortunately a car accident set us back until now. Like I said earlier, it's amazing how life can take you in so many directions. I share the title of producer with Brandon Cherrington, and even though this is my first attempt I believe we made a great team. Brandon always captures the talent of the musicians he works with. We recorded this album on a solid foundation of friendship, family, and of course laughter. There was never a dull day in studio, and the insults and humiliation tactics were rampant. We had friends and family come by on a regular basis just to be entertained. All the sessions were filmed and we hope to share them someday....after many, many edits. The bands journey has also allowed us to meet and make many new friends who have helped us along our way. The album was recorded at Demitone Studios in Vancouver, B.C. Many thanks to Kelly Becker for providing us with a great studio to work with. The album artwork is created by my friend Kyo of Kansept Studios and myself. Thanks for your talent Kyo. The Discriminators and I are not just band mates but good friends. We share a love and passion for music that is challenging. I'm thankful for having Chris by my side over 5 years ago and eventually meeting Dan, Bojan and David. Each member brings their own style of music and together we are able to create our Indo-Folk-Rock sound. I look forward to many more musical adventures with The Discriminators.
