简介

The D.O.K. aka The Descendent Of Kingz is more than a MC. He is a teacher, community activist, performer, and revolutionary that has been fighting for change in his community for over 17 years. Born and raised in Fort Worth, TX, DOK has embraced Hip Hop Culture for as long as he remembers. "The first record I ever owned was "Rapper's Delight"; DOK says; "I was only about 7 years old and I memorized the whole song. I had a cousin who was one of the first Hip Hop DJs in Fort Worth, and he hipped me to all the East Coast sh*t, The West Coast sh*t, and the Dirty South. I heard P.E., Run DMC, KRS 1, and Whodini before they had national distribution. I heard NWA, 2Short, and Ice T long before the West took over. The Geto Boyz, MC A.D.E., Masta Ace, and 8Ball and MJG was holding down the South way before the current southern dominance in Hip Hop. My roots are deep." The D.O.K. has a deep passion for 3 things: Fatherhood, Hip-Hop, and Youth. He is a proud single father of 2 boys, Lil' Steve and Omari. "My boys are my inspiration; says DOK; "My pops wasn't really there for me so I'm dedicated to being there for my boys." The DOK has been working with youth in Fort Worth for over 18 years, teaching African History, Entrepreneurship, Music Industry Basics, Studio Engineering, Songwriting, and Life Skills to urban youth. He has been involved in several struggles against racism and ageism like in 2003 when he led a national protest against the sponsors of NASCAR that garnered international attention. "We were called every racist term in the book by NASCAR fans during those protests"; explains DOK; "Racism is alive and well." The D.O.K. began his professional music career in 1994 as a part of the pioneering rap group Eastside along with his partner L.O. da G. Eastside never achieved national acclaim, but is recognized in the underground as pioneers along with other Fort Worth groups One Gud Cide (featuring Twisted Black) and GenaCide (featuring Six Deuce, L Dog, and Yung Doob)for their work in the industry and attracting major labels, investors, and producers to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Eastside's first and only label release "The Battlefield" is considered an underground classic that you can still find being played on the streets of Funkytown. In 2003, DOK became the President of the Nazzdack Network, an independent label and entertainment company founded by producer Zeno G. Along with Zeno, The D.O.K. helped to develop Mandy Baby, a rap artist from Arlington, TX who in 2006 became the first US born white female MC to land a nationwide distribution deal for her second album "Suburban Girl". The D.O.K. is determined to continue to learn and grow as an artist and has added the title "music video director" to his repertoire, having directed and edited 8 full length music videos in 2007 alone. "You should never stop learning", says the D.O.K., "This is the Visual Age, so I felt being able to put a visual image to an audible expression would take my art to another level; and it has." In 2007, DOK completed his first solo album "The Field Negro" and is releasing it independently on the internet. "The Field Negro" is a real personal album that I put alot of time into. It is so raw. I produced and mixed most of the album. I recorded alot of it on my digital set up at home because I was putting so many of my own feelings on display that I didn't want to do the songs in front of a bunch of people. I decided to release it because it is honest music and it is my responsibility to share it, especially during a time when radio stations are promoting so much negativity." DOK has his own non-profit organization called S.O.U.N'D. (Sounds Of Unity N' Determination). S.O.U.N'D.'s purpose is to fight the negative images in Hip Hop by creating positive ones. "We give youth the opportunity to learn how to record, mix, and market original music as well as learn about the music industry in exchange for a commitment to community development and leadership." The proceeds from the sale of The Field Negro will go toward helping S.O.U.N'D. open a new studio in the Fort Worth area. "I'm asking everyone to get behind this album", says DOK, "Not just because it sounds good but because by supporting this album you will be helping me to provide a service in our community thats badly needed." The D.O.K. loves Hip Hop and Hip Hop loves The D.O.K. He's here to stay.
