The Brass Alley Band has been astonishing audiences in the Washington, D.C. area and the eastern seaboard for the past 20 years with its unbridled enthusiasm as it plays rock, soul and swing with a vengeance rarely heard in the variety-band circuit. In his new CD, Loup-Garou, Brass Alley saxophonist and woodwindist Steve Churchill draws on his pals in the band along with friends and a vast number of influences to present a shape-shifting collection of original compositions ranging from power-pop rock to dark and sensuous cabaret to funk to swing to acid jazz. Providing stellar lead vocals are Brass Alley front man Smooth Steve Miller, T.J. “Wild Man” Murphy, and Big Rob Kilgore. In addition to his duties in Brass Alley, Steve Churchill has played saxophone, clarinet, flute, oboe and English horn with such diverse artists as Ray Charles, Nat Adderly, Dolly Parton, Jerry Lewis, Johnny Mathis, Sam Moore, and the Bolshoi Ballet in the Kennedy Center Opera House and Show Orchestras, The National Theater Orchestra, national tours of Broadway Musicals, and network television shows. On this album, Steve plays alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, English Horn, keyboards and percussion, and sings lead and harmony vocals.
