FJAZZ is a saxophone player, multi-instrumentalist (flute, clarinet, piano, guitar, EWI4000s) and music producer merging live acoustic playing with heavily produced electronic music in New York City. His debut CD, Posthuman Times (November, 2011) pushes the boundaries between improvised acoustic jazz and sound designed electronic music. A year later FJAZZ releases his second solo CD:. "Sound Bending is a cinematic audio experience that combines jazz, electronica, live playing and carefully crafted sound design." His work combines diversity, technical quality, accurate emotional expression and originality. Those interests are exemplified by the use of digital technology developed during the WWII/Cold War in contemporary music and financial systems; posthuman art and sampling; electro-acoustic and digital elements in both dance and theater and the liberating power of sound as it was introduced by John Cage. Fernando Arruda graduated from the New School University in 2010 with a duel degree in Jazz from the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and a degree in 20th Century European History from Eugene Lang College. Fernando is active in the music scene of New York performing regularly with his Arruda’s Jazz Quartet, FJAZZ Live, Dark Inc. Project, Sound Carta Y Su Orchestra, Hannis Brown Group, Art&Sax Saxophone Quartet, sax and DJ club/festival performances with ANtler and touring as DJ for Warner Bros.’ artist Neon Hitch. Fernando is also an audio professional, a particularly mix between producer, composer, arranger, sound engineer and mix/master engineer. His studio credits include works with Blondie, Barb Morrison, Tony Maserati and Elliot Scheiner among others. Fjazz’s inspiration comes from diverse sources such as working as a composer, sound designer and musical director for theatre and short movies. He also performs with synthesizers and loop/drum machines. Mixing, mastering and doing Foley sound effects with Ableton Live and Logic Fernando has collaborated with Zishan Ugurlu, Ozzie Rodriguez, Jesse Berger, Cecilia Rubino, Daniel Wyatt, Liz Swados and Terry O’Reilly.
