Erlewine, one of the Midwest’s most beloved songwriters, will release this much-anticipated album nationally on November 1. With Erlewine’s soulful songwriting as its foundation, the album was shepherded to life by producer Tyler Duncan (Ella Riot, Michelle Chamuel) and a close-knit cast of exceptional musicians: Vulfpeck’s Theo Katzman (drums), Joe Dart (bass) and Woody Goss (piano). There are also appearances from notable voices like Antwaun Stanley (Vulfpeck), Lindsay Lou Rilko (Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellies), and other friends and collaborators. This deeply personal project was supported, in part, by a remarkable Kickstarter campaign that raised nearly $40,000 in just a few weeks — a testament to Erlewine’s reach and her fans’ belief in her work. Mother Lion is “an album borne from deep change,” Erlewine says. The artist’s voice — warm, familiar, effortless — is a beguiling vehicle for potent songwriting exploring the nature of grief, growth and gratitude; it’s music that continues to reveal more layers with each listen. This is the 10th studio album for Erlewine, who has been a staple in the Midwest music community for nearly two decades. The prolific artist has performed on A Prairie Home Companion, and her work has been spotlighted by Rolling Stone and NBC’s The Voice. Her gift for writing rich, uplifting songs that feel at once fresh and familiar has earned her a broad, devoted fan-base well beyond her deep-set roots in Michigan.
