简介
Jarana Beat is a world music project that fuses Mexican music and dance with international folkloric instruments and rhythms. Led by composer/musician Sinuhé Padilla-Isunza, the band gathers professional performers from Mexico, in collaboration with artists from all over the world, drawing on elements and percussive footwork from forms such as Son Jarocho, Son Guerrerence, Son Huasteco, Salsa, Cumbia, Samba and Rumba, taking New York's (and the world's!) scene on a journey through Afro-Amerindian culture. The debut cd ¡Echapalante! transmits the essence of the band through every note and every lyric, leaving you feeling really good. It's a production to not only be heard, but lived! Sinuhé Padilla-Isunza was born in Mexico City and grew up in an environment of constant artistic activity. In 1986 he began his first studies in corporal expression, music and dance - disciplines he has continued practicing and studying in various forms to this day. In 1992, he began studying Nahuatl cosmogony, learning sacred Aztec music and dance. Three years later, he began to merge these disciplines with other influences such as jazz, Afro-Latin music and trova. Interested in investigating Arab and Andalusian roots of Latin American music, Sinuhé went to Spain in 2000 to study Flamenco history, music and dance. After four years there, he traveled to South America, this time investigating the various manifestations of Afro-Amerindianmusic. He spent three years in Brazil, then traveled to Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Bolivia, where he collaborated in various projects in music, dance and performance. He currently lives in New York, collaborating as musical director with Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, composing new material, producing other artists under his label Jarana Records and performing regularly with Jarana Beat.
