Joe Leonard Bio Born: Port Lavaca, TX. History: Bass player coming up in the church, part time drummer in the church and also fill in organist. Learned how to play the Bass guitar at the age of 4 playing with my dad in the living room with neighbors looking in the window. Moved to Detroit, Michigan at an early age and had chances to be around and onstage with the Motown gang of musicians, with the likes of Kicker Womack, Ben Baber (Jazz organist) Ronnie Sandelin, Jimmy Sterling former chairman of the board drummer, Norma Jean Bell seen her band play many times, Shields of Faith (Gospel Quartet) Roosevelt Leaks and a host of others that their talents well exceeded anything I had. So to the drawing board I went and here I am now, never did I take it serious enough to see myself as a front line artist but I had a lot of support from Mark May Band which for years were the opening act for the Renown Allman Brothers. Mark encouraged me to proceed with my band and coached me in my guitar playing so I could say what I felt on my instrument. “KUDDOS” Accomplishments: Played a few times with Kicker Womack, Ben Baber and been around Ronnie Sandelin around the Detroit area. Have now formed The Band Joe Leonard and the Southern Soul Band of Houston TX. Formerly The Blues Dudes for a couple years. JLSSB has released the 1stCD (On The Way Up).
