简介
Skipp Coon is a husband, father, son, visual and performing artist. His world is colored brightly, in shades of red, black and green. Skipp is a native of Jafrica (aka Jackson, Mississippi). He is a by-product of growing up in Mississippi, a state with rich history, deep pain and great potential. Skipp Coon’s trademark ‘black liberation’ lyrics have served as a vehicle to perform nationally and internationally. Over the past 7 years, he has cultivated a loyal fan base from the bay to the UK. His most recent release, ‘Miles Garvey’, which he began carefully crafting while awaiting his first-born son – Miles-Garvey – was released in August 2014 and has received stellar reviews and placements on many notable outlets such as Ego Trip (“Enjoy Rap Music 2”), Pigeons and Planes, The Smoking Section, and Okayplayer. The music is heavy, however minimal, and aggressive, and the message touches on every issue that impoverished communities face – crime, drugs, failing public education, systemic oppression, and lack of leadership – subjects that Skipp has been pushing since his first project, ‘Women Revolution Tennis Shoes’ (2008). Skipp’s perspective lends its voice from an almost-preacher standpoint – informing, inspiring, and urging listeners to think about and act on these issues. From Pigeons and Planes: “One of the most urgent rap albums of 2014… Miles Garvey is a nine-song transmission from within a smoldering fire, released with a blunt, singular purpose: “Meant To Spark Our Revolution FEARLESSLY & UNAPOLOGETICALLY!”… Miles Garvey an important album, a continued wake-up call to a country facing its burning time.” From ** (of Red Bull Music Academy): “…political firebrand Skipp Coon unleashes a characteristically smoldering diatribe.” Skipp Coon has shared the stage with the likes of Curren$y, G-Eazy, Jay Ant, Kehlani, Tanya Morgan, and Nesby Phips at Opera Nightclub, Atlanta, The Lyric, Oxford, MS, Secret Stages Festival, Birmingham, AL, and Hi-Ho Lounge, New Orleans, LA.
