Over 3,000 fans have tuned into YouTube to view a cover of Jay-Z & Kanye West’s 2011 smash single “Otis” done by Rappers Splash Rob & Dame B. And thousands more have viewed the other various singles the two have released collaboratively and separately. Surely an impressive start to what is shaping up to be a very lucrative career in the music business for the two Ohio MC’s. Robert Bailey Jr. aka Splash Rob (born November 1st, 1991 in Cleveland, OH) made his entrance into the entertainment world as a promoter in 2009 for Legacy Entertainment. It was during this period of his life that Rob began Free Style rapping as a hobby but through the encouragement of his peers the young promoter realized he had a true talent for rapping and it was then when Rob would transform from promoter to MC. Since 2009 Rob has worked diligently to gain success as an MC and like all rappers starting out he had to develop himself into a performer which meant developing a style of his own but firstly finding a rap name for himself. “My rap name is Splash Rob & I got that name from my first song my friend said it one day & it just stuck ever since then,” Splash Rob revealed in an interview. With his rap moniker chosen it was then that Splash Rob could begin focusing on the music and brand aspects of his career. He developed a Myspace Page, then a popular outlet for artist, for his music that gained over 100,000 views. Myspace aided Splash Rob into becoming a popular figure in the entertainment scene in Cleveland and his digital imprint only expanded from there. Gaining nearly 5,000 friends on his Facebook page and nearly 4,000 followers on his Twitter page Splash Rob has continued to build not only his brand but his following with the fans. Winning an award for his single, “IHOP” alongside artist Dame B, AE Rich and Noon, Splash Rob is beginning to see all of the hard work pay off. And in 2011 he and Dame B’s fourth quarter Mixtape, “Swag On The Table,” released to the acclaimed Livemixtapes.com site has generated over 12,355 views to date. “When people come up to me telling me they like my music that drives me to go that much harder & give them more to hear [it drives me] to please the listeners,” says Splash. With a growing catalog of music, a unique style of his own and swelling fan base, Splash Rob plans to continue to deliver the music countless fans have grown to love and unfamiliar fans will soon adore. “My ultimate goal is to have a different impact on rap and to show people that you don’t always have to be serious but you can have fun with it as well, that’s why I like doing parody’s [in my music] because it stays away from the violence part and brings happiness and laughter to people but staying real at the same time,” says Splash. “When people hear me and see my story they'll know that I’m a real person. With new music on the way, a host of self made videos on his Youtube page and a number of shows local shows lined up in the Midwest, Splash Rob plans to keep the momentum going to achieve the goals he ultimately set for himself. With his imprint Holla@UM ENT providing the outlet for his musical contributions the currently unsigned MC continues to work to solidify his spot in the Hip Hop music industry.
