This 6-piece band from San Francisco, California features twangin' guitars, honky-tonk piano, lap steel, and a tight rhythm section, and are known for their energetic live shows. Blending the sharp songwriting acumen of Texas songwriters and the explosive energy of The Blasters, the band crafts a sound that varies in style and tempo with an ease that recalls the Joe Ely Band of the "Musta Notta Gotta Lotta" era or honky-tonk heroes Commander Cody. When the band made their live radio debut on legendary Americana station KPIG, host Brad Kava exclaimed: "...You know the great musicians by something called dynamics...and these guys, they take my breath away..." "...It's like shifting gears in a race car..." "...These are all originals? I'd buy that - right now I'd go home and download it!" Singer/guitarist/bandleader Ted O'Connell penned several tracks including the opening rockabilly salvo "Wound Up", the soothing country of "Three Chords and a Bottle of Wine", moody rocker "Losin' Control", the Buddy Holly-ish "Bringin' It Home To You" and the hard-drivin' "Gone Too Long". Piano player and songwriter Dylan Orlando adds mandolin to the 3/4 time lilt of the tender "Seattle" and harmonica to album centerpiece "Gold Digger." The melodic and precise playing of lead guitarist Bob Spector colors every song with a variety of 6 and 12-string electric guitars, and Russell Bourne's lap steel ranges from slippery slide to bluesy raunch. Drummer Rory Judge (nephew of jazz legend Jake Hanna) drives the beat and submits the roots-pop gem "Turn To Me" (a long-lost composition with renowned guitar-repairman-to-the-stars Gary Brawer). Band compatriot Dennis Roarick contributes the country-swing number "Deep In My Lonely Heart" and a co-write with O'Connell on the honky-tonkin' "A Year and a Day." The CD was recorded and mixed in San Rafael, California by Bob Spector and mastered by Gary Hobish at A. Hammer Mastering in San Francisco, whose credits are far too numerous to list.
