简介
Debajo del Agua is a seven-piece instrumental hip-hop band with members from Chile, Peru, El Salvador, Mexico, France, Puerto Rico and the United States. They fuse hip hop with the melodies of Andean music, samba, son, salsa, cumbia, reggae, and reggaeton, creating a flavorful blend of melodies, spiced up with a style of its own. Emcees with socially conscious lyrics, backed by upbeat Afro-Latino percussion, bamboo wind instruments, Caribbean and South American strings blend to create an impressive sound that leaves crowds in awe. Debajo del Agua was formed in Denver, Colorado in 2006, and has since become a Latin hip-hop phenomenon. They have taken Colorado by storm with high-energy performances and a musical style that is irresistibly danceable. In 2008 and 2009, the Westword Music Showcase nominated them for best hip-hop group in Denver. In 2009, the Indie Acoustic Project awarded Debajo del Agua’s second album as the best Latin CD in Colorado. Additionally, they have shared the stage with Salvador Santana, The Kumbia Kings, Akwid, the Flobots, and three-time Latin Grammy winner, Ozomatli. Debajo del Agua’s blend of undeniable musical skill and spitfire lyrics (in Spanish, English, and Portuguese), is topped off with a message of peace, justice, and equal rights. They have featured in performances for various non-profit organizations and community events including Denver’s 2007 Immigrant Rights March, the Brown Sugar Festival, Hip Hop for Nicaragua, and the Latina Health Summit. In 2009, Debajo del Agua was honored with the Denver Justice and Peace award for their devotion and outstanding work in creating a more just world.
