简介
The lines between life and entertainment can blur. Sometimes life imitating art and/or art imitating life can be a chicken and the egg situation, which comes first. TWAIN has always used this dynamic of the life and art fusion in his music. “My whole music career has simply been me telling my story, my journey, that’s it.” he says. Recording and performing since the early 2000s he got his start with hip-hop/rap in the late 90s toying around with rhymes and battling with his peers, in his neighborhood and online. Born in Chicago, IL, he later moved to the Twin Cities in the early 2000s, already in love with hip-hop as a culture overall and falling for its scene there. He recalls, “After I moved to Minneapolis, it was go time with the music. I never looked back.” Immediately, he starting putting his story to wax and released a number of underground albums and mixtapes and performing around the country. “Wherever I was in my life, the music let you know, like a time marker.” he states matter-of-factly. As a result, his music has been a hodgepodge of party songs, trunk bangers, purist hip-hop records, and introspective recollections and tales, all from a place of honesty. After taking the next step of independently releasing his album Truth Or Consequences (Ill County) commercially in 2009, he then released an extended play called The Gift of Discovery (Ill County) at the end of 2014. Both autobiographical collections that travel through the soul and lush soundscapes, homages and all the way up to the contemporary hip-hop sound of now. A Twin Cities Hip Hop Award nominee, these days TWAIN is enjoying a new level-feeling like a rap veteran, while remaining an active live performer. He has evolving into a musician, taking meticulous care in the detail of his music. His current release, The Gift of Discovery, is what he calls his "proudest work, off the scale alone". It is the perfect combination of his artistry and sheer production. This time he was sure to include social observation while still coming from a truthful space at all times. He closes with “It’s important to me-I’ve sort of taken it on as a challenge, to keep my music personal and very close to me; and my life and thoughts only.”
