简介

Perhaps five pieces do not make a complete world of music for a bassoonist, but they can encapsulate five vibrant and richly expressive “ecosystems” within a performer’s world. It is the exploration of the context and meaning of each of these ecosystems that give energy and direction for a path through a bassoonist’s world. These selections, drawn from a broad range of styles, show the diversity available to the bassoonist while sharing a common thread of vivid emotional content. Bassoonist William Ludwig recently retired from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University as Professor of Bassoon after serving 14 years. He was appointed to the JSOM faulty in August 2007 and was Chair of the Woodwind Department from 2010-2018. Previous to this appointment he was Professor of Bassoon at Louisiana State University from 1985-2007. Since 2002 has been in residence at the Brevard Music Center (BMC) as principal bassoon of the Brevard Music Center Orchestra and artist-teacher faculty. He was artist-in-residence at the State University of New York-Stony Brook Department of Music from 1989-1994 concurrent with his LSU appointment and taught at the University of South Florida from 1979- 1985. He holds degrees from Louisiana State University and Yale School of Music and had the privilege of studying with John Patterson, Sol Schoenbach, Leonard Sharrow, Bernard Garfield and Arthur Weisberg.
