The Western Music Association 2012 Crescendo Award winner brings you her second album of her western favorites including sveral originals. Living on a Texas ranch and having trained wild mustangs, her heart is in every bit of the music she sings, writes and plays, and you will be able to tell! Song Notes: 1. Let Me Ride Down in Rocky Canyon – Imagine a sweet lonesome day, drifting on a good horse down an open mountain trail. Where else but in a great Gene Autry song would you ride across “wrinkled old creeks”?! 2. What a Horse Has Gotta Do – My mare, Velvet, is the culprit who performed every antic in this song, multiple times. Maybe you can relate? 3. My Window Faces the South – Sometimes it just doesn’t get any better than a view of home and some solid western swing! 4. Texas Bluebonnet Waltz – Come to Texas in March or April…you will understand. 5. Mockingbird Yodel - I love old songs. This one is from the 40s and I first heard it sung by Carolina Cotton - thanks to Jennifer Epps for reminding me of it! It makes me feel happy and silly. 6. The Horse Nobody Could Ride – Having trained two mustangs, I loved this waltz at first listen when cowgirl poet Teresa Burleson introduced me to it. 7. Yodel Western Swing –This composition was inspired by some of the great female performers from “Grandpa’s day”. Yodelers and western swing singers such as Rosalie Allen, Patsy Montana, the McKinney Sisters, Carolina Cotton…and of course, Janet McBride. It is essential to “Aaahh-haaa!” along in Bob Wills’ style! 8. Roll Along, Prairie Moon – I’ve noticed it’s the cowboy tradition to sing to the moon about heartache, just like it’s the coyote tradition to wail at it. Guess that sums this one up. Found in a Roy Rogers movie from 1943…but it dates back further than that! I love its easy swingin’ melody and simple western lyric. 9. Endless Sky – I feel at home under an endless sky, and very at home singing this Chuck Pyle original. Let it take you for a ride. 10. When the White Roses Bloom (Down in Red River Valley) – Dale Evans would have turned 100 years old in 2012. This more obscure song of hers is in honor of her memory; and besides, Rich, Jess, and Johnny play just too purty on it not to let you hear it! 11. Cowgirlfriends – Anywhere there’s a couple of cowgirls there’s bound to be plenty of mischief. But really, Devon….floor wax?! 12. Guardian Angel – Randy Huston wrote a gem when he penned this one. My first horse was an older gelding who taught me how to ride and probably a lot of other things. He’s 26 years old now, and I’m singing this for him.
