From Los Angeles, CA (via Oklahoma City), Meredith Meyer launches into 2009 with her new album IT'S SPOOKY TO BE YOUNG. Produced, recorded, and mixed by Bill Racine at Pilsen Sound Studios in Chicago, IL., IT'S SPOOKY... was created in the industrial part of the city, on a drawbridge over the Chicago river. "It was like being at a playground, making music all day and then staying up until the wee hours playing the piano by candlelight, looking out the giant windows down to the river and the cargo boats...what a difference it makes creating in that sort of environment." Bill Racine is known for his work with a multitude of great bands including Rogue Wave, Mates of States, Mark Gardener, Hopewell, The Comas, The Mercies, Longwave, and his work alongside Producer Dave Fridmann for the Flaming Lips (+ many more). "I had lunch with Bill and he seemed like someone I would hang out with growing up. He also happens to be a technical wizard and have great aesthetic taste with music." Arriving in LA in her early years, Meredith sang and wrote for a number of bands and musical projects, performing in a handful of places ranging from the Museum of Contemporary Art, to curiousities like the (now demolished) Leon's Steakhouse in the valley, to the "normal" Hollywood and eastside venues. After performing with bands for years and wanting to go further into songwriting, she began writing in numerous styles, in great quantity, delving into artists she'd never heard before, passionate about learning the classics and experimenting with her own sound. She met Brian Kehew (Air, Fiona Apple, Moog Cookbook) who produced and recorded Meredith's solo debut, ITEMS YOU WON'T FIND ELSEWHERE, which set Meredith apart from the average female singer songwriter in its instrumentation and arrangements. Nearly 4 years later, Meredith Meyer is excited to present IT'S SPOOKY TO BE YOUNG which includes deep, scenic, and heart-pulsing songs, as interesting sonically as they are lyrically. Touching on her own personal journeys and life experiences as well as the human experience in the modern world, the range of emotion expressed in Meredith's voice will reach the listener. Bill Racine's ability to fine-tune and paint the songs with the just right sounds and textures make this album a moving musical journey.
