Phobos Eats Your Satellites came about from a number of guitar solos that I’d recorded for another project in 2009/2010. I’ve never been satisfied with the way my solos were used in that project and so I decided to give them a new lease of life by composing a completely different song around them. Rather than the rock/metal riffs used in the original project, I decided to explore afro-latin grooves for these solos, and the result was this delightful ditty which also gave me the chance to put my new cowbell to good use! The inspiration for the title was sparked from a comment by astronaut Buzz Aldrin regarding a mysterious monolith on the surface the Martian moon Phobos.
