James Mitchell is a political and gay writer for his times. Born as a Chicago native, James has been working on recordings, studying audio, and doing shows since he can remember. "Piano, believe it or not, was my first love. I never really thought about going into guitar until about high school, and at the time, it really was just to have something else to do while I was hanging with my friends. It wasn't until college I decided to do something serious about my music. Oh yes, I tried bands in high school, that was fun. But as I became more and more serious about my writing, I felt it was necessary for me to put my work to the test and start getting out there, playing a show here and there, recording a disc... the real stuff" After spinning in and out of bars and coffee houses little after 2000, james knew it was time to become more professional about his work. He attended Columbia in Chicago and gradated with a B.A. in Audio Sciences. While studying at Columbia he put together a compilation of songs that later became his first professional release, "Resemble". "It all happened on accident really. I mean, I met a few people at school, and those people knew people, and then those people knew people.. and I guess we all starting combining thoughts on just one idea. I mean.. I had an a guy offering to engineer, and another guy to primarily co-produce with me and help me arrange the disc, and even had a guy to set up microphones! It was a dream come true for me, and was in love with each and every one of them. Then later the recordings started to get the hands on experience of true professionals who actually enjoyed working on the record... so all and all, it was not what I expected in the beginning at all.
