Jeannette Echeverria Born May 13 and better known as Cheena Black, is a Hispanic American singer-songwriter, recording engineer and graphic designer. Cheena Black has been plying her craft as a hip-hop, rnb and soul singer from the streets of Brooklyn since the age of 5. At 9 years of age Cheena Black’s mother (Maria Hernandez) and her grandmother (Felicidad Maldonado) decided to enroll her in a dancing school in (RIDGWOOD DANCE STUDIO) Queens, New York. She did performances on Rockaway Beach Channel as well as street festivals. Cheena then moved from dancing to singing to release her pain through the loss of her grandmother while she was in high school. At 9 years of age Cheena Black’s mother (Maria Hernandez) and her grandmother (Felicidad Maldonado) decided to enroll her in a dancing school in (RIDGWOOD DANCE STUDIO) Queens, New York. She did performances on Rockaway Beach Channel as well as street festivals. Cheena then moved from dancing to singing to release her pain through the loss of her grandmother while she was in high school. She later went on to create a girl group by the name of the “CHOSEN ONES” inspired by girl groups like SWV, EN VOGUE, XSCAPE. The group fell apart after Cheena graduated from high school, leading her on to pursue a solo career. Cheena then joined the BROOKLYN ZOO OF THE WUTANG FAMILY in 2006, and in 2008 she did an unreleased song with BUDDHA MONK from BROOKLYN ZOO for her solo album produced by Dj Raw. cheena-black-200From 2010 through to 2012 she did work with Divine Records which featured other well-known artists like Dmx, Grand Puba, E-Smooth. It was during this time that she also released her single “Recreational User” Feat. Kid Spring & Stae Fly, which was written by Gary Jinkins and Produced by ATG & Savage Beats Entertainment. Cheena was also featured on a single called “Pillow Talk”, as well as in a promo video with showcased artists like Wutang Harlem 6, Grand Puba and E-Smooth. In 2012 Ralph Mc Daniel from Video Music Box interviewed Cheena about the release of her then new mixtape. She released her mixtape PINK SAGA VOL1 in April of 2012. After this she started working on follow-up mixtape called “BLACK 2 THE FUTURE” to introduce her album called “LOVE AND STRUGGLE” for her independent label BLACK MONROW MUSIC RECORDS . Cheena Black has recently released her track “I LOVE YOU” Produced by June Marx ( of twin perils)
