Beams of Light features eleven original songs, four (4) composed by Bradie Speller and Walter Bland, pay special tribute to Bradie’s influences and mentors Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter. “I have had the honor of performing and recording with some of the greatest names in music: Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul (RIP) of Weather Report have been mentors and friends for well over 30 years. No way could I do my first project without paying homage to these great artists. Miles is a cosmic story for another conversation, but suffice it to say we have a deep connection. Thus the album title “Beams of Light.” ~ Bradie Speller Co-Leader, composer, arranger and the band’s pianist Walter Bland brings his brand of genius composition to the project. Walter penned six songs on the album rounded out with two vocal compositions performed by former KEM vocalist Kelly Jarmons. “Face to Face “& “Rose Petals” are classy love songs delivered with the style and vocal dexterity of a musical instrument. Kelly heard the songs and was challenged to write lyrics. It was as if the songs were made for her to come along and complete them. "Beam Me Up" is a tribute to Herbie Hancock. Check the driving rhythms, the pounding keys laid down by Speller and Bland and the exquisite road map on which this song is constructed. The violin played by child prodigy Marissa Licata and veteran sax man Larry Jackson weave a journey into a new world of sound. "Where Miles Left On" will speak for itself. Upstart Trumpeter Doug Woolverton kills the horn parts as he leaves the listener wondering if Miles is still alive. Jo Zav is a club banger; dedicated to the genius pianist and co-leader of Weather Report for 15 years. "We Are Not Alone" is an exotic composition featuring Speller on the Roland Handsonic delivering India, Africa and the Milky Way on a platter for the violin, piano and sax to travel light waves and bring home a level of serenity and peace unlike anything the listener has heard in recent years. Serio, Doubt and Flash Card are signature Walter Bland compositions. Each song is packed with precision, speed and lush lines that display his genius at not only writing but arranging. His compositions challenge both the players and the listeners to get every drop out of every note and leave nothing on the table. Climate Change is ready to take its place in the pantheon of great bands that come along once in a lifetime and make a mark that crosses genres and generations. Take a listen and know that Climate Change is real. “ I don’t like that word Jazz……..it’s Social Music.” Miles Davis 1982 #SocialMusic
