Hestia is the Greek goddess, Estia. She inhabits the center point of home, the fireplace or hearth. Her role is not only to induce warmth but family gatherings, introspection, meditation and visions. Anyone who has sat relaxed before a fire has met her. In solitude she is the provocation of creativity. It was Hestia who surrendered Delphi to Apollo and Dionysus. Her temple there was made of simple stuff, beeswax and feathers. She left the Python of Delphi and brought the foresight associated with that sacred place with her to be at the beck and call of the common home dweller. Her gifts and non-intrusive spirit made her the most treasured of goddesses and all public festivals began with an acknowledgment of her presence with a simple sacrifice of kindling and barley. Undemanding, nonjudgmental, kind and quiet, she comes always bearing gifts. The gift could be as simple as the relaxing warmth of an evening campfire, but she can just as easily bring a daydream, a resolution, a resignation from worry, a melody or even the passion of erotic love. Her crackling music mixes well with brandy, coffee and a pipe, any wind or stringed instrument, conversation and flight of thought. She is best friends with Hermes, Hephaestus, Pan, the Muses and occasionally the seductive Aphrodite. Don't be surprised when she invites them to enliven the evening hours and join you and your loved ones around her sacred hearth. Home is where the heart is; home is where the hearth is. They are the same. Hestia is also a songwriting couple from the high plains of northwest Kansas who embrace and express her mystical charms both in melody and lyrics. They are very acquainted with the “as if” people who inhabit Psyche. Besides being practicing writers, musicians and artists, they have been licensed practicing therapists for many moons. They are natives of Michigan and Georgia. In the nineties they relocated from Music City to the beaches of the southern facing islands of North Carolina. Tossed to the high plains by Hurricane Floyd and the devastating economy following 9/11, they inadvertently found there a sacred solitude and spirit that enabled them to immerse themselves completely in the recording of the songs they have been writing for you. Jointly, they hold a sincere affection for each other, for their family, for seven stray cats who wandered in from storms to become their familiars and for you, dear reader. May you find, accept and express your True Self. Anyone or anything that interferes with that process is not in your best interest.
