Renata Youngblood has been writing songs all over the place for a very long time. Though she was originally trained classically on piano she picked up the acoustic guitar in her lonely teen years and never put it back down. She writes songs that are inspired by people she observes, the earth, injustices, family, love, and of course, pain. Renata really loves sad songs. She says they make her feel very good. Renata's first two albums, 'Weightless' 2005 and 'Side Effects of Owning Skin' 2006 were produced by David J of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets. As if that isn't cool enough, they also received nominations for the San Diego Music awards and the LA Music Awards for 'Best Acoustic' and 'Album of the Year.' Ms. Youngblood was also nominated 'Singer Song-writer of the Year 2007' by the LA Music Awards. The release of the 'Bloody' EP in September 2012 is exciting for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is the pedal steel parts played by co-producer Marty Rifkin. Rifkin, who has also played with a number of very nice performers such as Bruce Springsteen (if you've ever heard of him), really brought the magic of Renata's songs out while working in his studio. It took only a few days, but apparently Marty doesn't need a whole lot more than that to make really good things happen. Also featured on the album is the haunting lap steel dobro parts played by co-producer Matt Bradford, backing vocals by Kim DiVine and percussion by James Mueller. It is possible that Renata has really outdone herself on this one... in this most simple and stripped down way. And by 'stripped' i mean instrumentally of course. These songs are unassuming, simply produced and delicious.
