After listening to the radio and becoming fed up with hip hop lyrics devoted to the deterioration of the moral, ethical, and intellectual fabric of the primary target audience, artist Michael Batiste, aka Mik Jag, was inspired to create a song that is both a positive message for the children, who make up the vast majority of the audience, and an appeal to the better nature of artists to be more sensitive to the contents of their music and the personas and the images they promote. Michael Batiste, aka Mik Jag, is a true student of hip hop, it’s origins, and it’s direct connection to African American culture -- it’s ties to language, literature, art, fashion, dance, and popular culture. He especially wants artists to consider how they portray self-esteem and self-image -- how our kids within that target hip hop audience see themselves, what they choose to imitate relative to the principles adopted by the concepts contained in the lyrics of almost every single song released in the last 20 years.
