After slogging it out making a name for themselves in Brisbane’s live scene, indie-pop quartet Youth Allowance are ready to present their debut EP. Planting their sonic roots amongst pioneering indie rock outfits such as The Jungle Giants and Two Door Cinema Club, Youth Allowance have shared bills with acts such as Jeremy Neale, The Lulu Raes, Sans Parents, Hey Geronimo and THE VANNS.

Their self-titled EP is a collection of four powerhouse pop tracks, recorded at Airlock Studios with revered producer Yanto Browning (The Jungle Giants, The Medics, and Yves Klein Blue). Reaching critical acclaim with first single ‘Running’ the band have followed up with ‘Overthinker’ an ode to the frustration that occurs when one overanalyses the issues that plague relationships. The overarching theme of the record is on the sombre side. Juxtaposing this however is the bright, addictive method in which Youth Allowance craft their songs. While syncopated rhythm provides the basis for their unique brand of pop-riffs, fast flurries of melodic hooks provide the focal point of the EP and singer William Briskey’s vocals traverse meritoriously throughout. This combination creates Youth Allowance’s sound, and it’s undeniably catchy and dance inducing.
