This Shall Be For Music is a collection of romantic songs cycles all featuring the theme of lost love. This intrepretation of classic works by Brahms, Mahler and Vaughan Williams will be presented on Trombone. Filled with a variety of colours and dynamic ranges, Stephen Ivany and David Chafe are proud to present their first album together. Both Newfoundlanders, Stephen and David have collaborated for seven years and are proud to introduce you to this album which is the first of its kind to emerge from this province. Trombonist Stephen Ivany is a dynamic performer and music educator working and performing throughout North America. He has played with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Yale Philharmonia, and the New Haven Chamber Orchestra. As a chamber musician, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall at the Lincoln Centre, Morris Recital Hall, and was recently a student fellow of the Phoenix Chamber Music Festival. He is a founding member of the Nunatsiavut Brass Bands program in Coastal Labrador. Stephen holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from Memorial University, a Master of Music from Yale University, and is a Doctor of Music Candidate at Florida State University. Pianist David Chafe enjoys a prolific career as performer, recording artist, private teacher, adjudicator and director in his hometown of St. John’s. He has won numerous awards from the Music Industry Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and Music Nova Scotia for his classical and gospel albums, and has been nominated for East Coast Music Awards. He is co-founder and pianist for Newman Sound Men’s Choir, founding pianist for Lady Cove Women’s Choir, and his playing can be heard on theirs and numerous other recordings. David is planning to record an album of classical piano repertoire in 2015. He is presently working on his PhD in Sociology at Memorial University, studying the work of musicians in St. John’s.
