简介
Hiway continues where Roadside left off and ups the ante with “Disgruntled Employees' Association ". This time around, we are in full on story mode. The listener starts out with the protagonist, Aaron Kaplan, who has been stuck at a dead end job, dreaming of moving on and making a living off his passion for music, while also juggling time for his family. In his increasing angst his subconscious creates two alter egos: Hiway (the outspoken and competitive performer) and WayHi (the extreme, brash and crude instigator). The introverted Aaron is talked to by these alter egos in the form of songs, both of whom have their own respective points of view and influence. Aaron is guided through a tour of his own existence, and also of the world from which it is comprised. Along the way, Aaron is manipulated by his alter egos, who call themselves the Disgruntled Employees' Association. A plan is devised to get revenge on Aaron's oppressors, leading up to a climactic ending the listener will not soon forget. Each song is a chapter, each feature a vital character, “DEA" is more of a psychological thriller than an album. A beautiful mix of seriousness, humor, and all-out bars. Guest appearances include Twisted Insane, Kung Fu Vampire, The Jokerr, The Gas Station and more, with production by B. Swizlow and GMG. Top notch lyricism and dazzling beats make for a next level conceptual project. The listener will not be able to differentiate just what is fiction and what is pure documentary, as they themselves will be forced to examine their own role in the economic food chain. Themes such as mental disorders, gun control, racism, religion, and social class are all candidly explored in what could be one of the most relevant and significant album of our time.
