After many years of an unsettled fragmented Hip Hop scene in South Wales eleven emcees from across the region came together in the summer of 2013 to collaborate on a track. Using the instrumental of Elzhi’s Detroit State Of Mind, (a remix of Nas’ NY state of mind track) the group consisted of emcees and producers from some of South Wales’ most prevalent and respected Hip Hop crews (including Dead Resident’s and Squid Ninjas) produced ‘South Wales State Of Mind’ (SWSOM). The track was produced by Emcee/Producer DW Smith with DJ legend Jaffa adding the seal of approval by providing cuts.  Shortly after the track was mixed the crew came together in Cardiff to shoot the official music video with filmmaker/videographer Sam De La Haye of De la Haye TV. This one track along with accompanying video helped kick start a collaboration of artists that would come to be known as the Red Dragon Gang. The self proclaimed South Wales Super Crew would later grow to encompass some of the top emcees from the emerging local battle scene. The lid had been fully lifted off of Pandora’s box and all hell was about to break loose. Over the next two years, a number of instrumentals were kicked around with a few posse cuts and collaboration tracks being produced. As the track list grew a project began to form. In July 2015 a number of the emcees involved came together for their first live show, supporting Wu Wiseman Bronze Nazareth in Cardiff. The Gang now fully formed and more than ready to be unleashed upon the world, they set their sights on the completion of this, their debut album ‘SWSOM’. With the Cardiff and South Wales Hip-Hop/Rap scenes strengthening each passing month the evidence of those striving to build something great can be seen by all. The Red Dragon Gang stand as testament to what South Wales has to offer as well as what can be achieved through a little unity. There’s still a long way to go but it’s 2016 now and shit’s about to go down!  So here it is…SWSOM, brought to you by the Red Dragon Gang.
