简介
Bargain Garden Outro is incidental music from a dramatic work of the same name. In 2011, Sydney-based new-music group Ensemble Offspring collaborated with Theatre Kantanka to create Bargain Garden: a creative exploration of the rush and aftermath of our bargain-crazy, shopping-mad culture and lifestyle. An interdisciplinary group of artists created a dramatic “surround” visual and aural performance fusing physical theatre, live and electronic music, design and multi-media. In investigating the phenomenon of $2 shops found in most streets of our suburbs and our city, the work transformed the selling of cheap mass-produced low quality plastic products into an engaging and provocative performance event in which sound meets science and mass produced plastic became physical art, kinetic sculpture, performance art and even musical instruments. Music director Damien Ricketson derived the music almost entirely from musical detritus including symbolic references to everything from muzak and cheap love-songs, to John Cage and Penderecki. The music in the Bargain Garden Outro was composed as ambient music as audiences exit the immersive space. Includes vibraphone samples performed by Claire Edwardes and Jason Noble and vocal samples by Carlos Gomes. Recorded by Bob Scott. Image by Heidrun Lohr. Bargain Garden was premiered by Performance Space, Theatre Kantanka and Ensemble Offspring at Carriageworks, Sydney in November 2011.
