"The Creation" is Pete Malinverni's composition based on the poem by James Weldon Johnson, (JWJ), part of his cycle, "God's Trombones". Granted the rights to the poem by JWJ literary executor Jill Rosenberg-Jones, Malinverni composed this nine-movement piece for the 70-voice Soul Voices Choir he founded and directs along with a seven-piece band including: Pete Malinverni, pno; Patrick Dudasik, trpt; RIchard Bomzer, tnr. sax; Ben Barnett, tbn; Alex Hamburger, bari sax/fl; Malik McLaurine, bs; Juan Camilo-Sanchez, dms. This exciting live performance was captured at the Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase College in February of 2016.
