In 2008, while recording an album with his former band (Author), Chris Watt began to experience severe problems with his voice. Within a few weeks of the initial symptoms, his ability to sing was completely gone. After consulting with a number of physicians, it was eventually determined that Chris had partially paralyzed his right vocal chord, a devastating diagnosis for any vocalist. Finding a solution was made more difficult by the fact that Chris was diagnosed with Tourettes syndrome at 5 years old. The neurological abnormalities associated with the disorder were thought to be exacerbating the already disastrous situation. With no other options, Chris decided to go the surgical route. After 3 separate vocal procedures over a span of 4 years, the last of which left a permanent, synthetic implant in the weakened vocal fold, Chris had all but given up. He had spent countless hours with speech and singing therapists in the Denver area, and the problem continued to worsen, eventually making even basic speech almost impossible. He had reached a critical impasse, on one hand there did not seem to be a solution, but on the other he could never fully abandon his love for music and his passion to sing. It was an unresolvable conflict that would prove to be the most difficult and inexplicable struggle the 26 year old could have fathomed. For the next couple of years Chris attempted to "move on" with his life, grappling with the reality that he may never be able to sing again. It was a lonely existence, laced with desperation and despair. Just as all hope seemed to be lost, an unlikely sequence of events began to unfold in November of 2013 that would change Chris's life forever, and ignite the restoration of a voice that had been destroyed for 5 years.
