Song descriptions/meanings: 1. Trouble with Me: Trying hard for another's affections who pays you little attention, with the hope that in the end they turn your way and have the same 'trouble' as you 2. Zimbabwe: I volunteered in Zimbabwe in 2005 at a rural hospital. It was not like anywhere I’d been and when I got back there was a cholera outbreak and in the news it said President Mugabe was 'denying' the outbreak. One of many huge wrongs he was responsible for. I hope even a slight awareness of conditions and tyranny in Zimbabwe comes from this song. 3. The Show: This is a metaphor song. It’s about dating a coward who speaks of changing unhappy, negative things in his life and extols someone new’s strength and amazingness, but goes back to everything he spoke badly of, including the backstabbing ex-girlfriend. This song represents the hope that -or pretend ending where- the new ‘oasis in the desert’ girl helps ‘the man’ stand up for himself and move forward. 4. Inside of Me: This is a divorce song. A conversation across the kitchen table at two in the morning, say. Hope, love and letting go are universals and it’s about calmly resigning to the reality of what is, that cheating or not, the relationship didn't work and it’s best to move on separately. 5. Peripherying: I made up the word "peripherying" to mean being on the periphery, always being or feeling like you’re on the outside - of groups, family, friends, and systems (school, rules, policies). It’s about feeling different, like a black sheep, like standing out, and not feeling like you belong. It’s also about finding peace with it and yourself, know you create your reality and maybe you’ll find another to share the edge with.
