简介
Turn up volume, this is acoustic electricity! Canadian guitar player Kevin Cook is a long, lean song writing machine. You see words like mesmerizing and authentic pop up in the reviews. His third indie disc Western Union is a collection of eleven original songs stripped down to the bare essentials. Recorded mostly live in the studio, this country blues flavored disc has a big acoustic sound. From the gospel blues groove of Revelation Blues to the ragtime bounce of Lemon Grove to the more traditional country bluegrass strains of Cora-Mae and Early Girl, Kevin Cook has come up with a sound that is unmistakably his own. He says, "I went back and listened to some of my early influences when I was writing this album, people like JJ Cale, Doc Watson, Norman Blake and Reverend Gary Davis." Time after time reviewers unanimously agree that "Cook's obvious ace is his lyrics" and he's a clever artist who looks for different angles in his song writing. A step above the rest, Cook uses edgy first-rate finger-pickin' and soulful slide to deliver the music with conviction. You'll hear kick a** harmonica and mandolin weave through the songs. Kevin Cook just returned from Baker's recording studio (The Bills, The Cowboy Junkies) on the Canadian west coast where he was working on his fifth recording scheduled for release in the fall 2008. Be sure to stay tuned!
