Ray G Ward & the Light is a Folk Rock band based in central New Jersey. Ray G Ward was a fixture on the Philadelphia music scene as a singer-songwriter until he moved to New Jersey and formed a band in early 2012. The band has steadily attracted attention since the release of their debut EP "Welcome to the Real World." Their follow up EP, "I am You" was released in February, 2013. The band includes Brooklyn residents Ryan Smith (drums) and Enrique Mancia (bass), as well as frequent collaborator Colleen Ryan on backup vocals. Ray's father, violinist Michael Ward, has played on all of Ray's recordings to date. Their songs have been praised for their feeling and versatility, combining both old and modern styles into a unique sound. Bert Gagnon of the Songwriter's Network has stated "The musicianship and performance of Ray G Ward & the Light is some of the best I've ever heard." Their songs have been featured on satellite radio and independent stations throughout the country. "I am You" was recorded in Wilmington, Delaware by Earl Wilt, owner and founder of Jamland Studio. The band recorded the EP on a snowy day after narrowly escaping a car crash. The band continues to refer to their time in the studio as "magical."
