Roughly a year after the release of his debut album The Party Guest, Bryan Gallo noticed a small gap in his normally busy gigging schedule and in September of 2015 came up with a crazy idea: 'Maybe I should record and release some Christmas music'. The industry joke usually goes, "You make your Christmas record in July", but Gallo had never heard that joke. So in the middle of October 2015 the pre-production for the Santa Songs EP had begun. By November 27th, 2015 (Black Friday, the unofficial start to the Holiday Season) the record had been mixed and mastered, and was released digitally on a small scale to Bryan's immediate fan base and was added to the rotation on Long Island's WUSB. A minor Christmas miracle to say the least, it only took another two weeks to get the record out to the general public in physical and major digital formats. (A huge credit goes to Gene Paul at G&J Audio, for mastering the album right before the Thanksgiving holiday.) The record was Produced by Bryan Gallo & Mick Hargreaves at Hargreaves' Lantern Sound Recording Rig. Hargreaves (who also Engineered and mixed Bryan's debut) had convinced Gallo to proceed with the 'Crazy Christmas Idea' by mentioning John Lennon's wham-bam record & release sessions for songs such as "Instant Karma" and "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)". Inspired by the spirits of Rock-N-Roll past, Bryan gathered two other musician friends of his, Stephen Young & Nick Balzano, to hop on board for the recording process. Bryan wrote two songs on this collection ("It's Christmas Time" & "Santa Brings Toys", with an additional Reprise of the latter) and also decided to include two of his favorite traditional Christmas songs "Up On The House Top" and "Jolly Old St. Nicholas". He played all of the guitars and sang the lead vocals. Mick Hargreaves played bass and sang harmonies, Stephen Young tinked away at the piano, and Nick Balzano expertly mixed equal parts power and finesse on the drums, and even added in a "touch of cheese" when necessary. Santa Songs is a record that pays homage to the North Pole's most famous man & the "most wonderful time of the year" with a blend of Indie Rock, Folk Rock, and straight up Rock-N-Roll. It may not be Bing Crosby's 'Merry Christmas' LP, or Mariah Carey's classic holiday release by the same name, but this collection of songs is unique in its own right. It's not only Gallo's first Holiday release, it also stands as an extension of his distinctive songwriting and performance style.
