简介
Brooklyn artist and songwriter Tim Fite* realized he had a co-dependent relationship with his phone in the winter of 2014, so he designed a glass iphone replica to use as a weening device and technology surrogate. He called this object “The Phoney,” and learned to embrace it’s gift of digital transcendence. The cerebral peace created by Fite’s “Phoney” allowed him to focus on producing iBeenHACKED - a music/art project satirizing and celebrating the highs and lows of digital culture, examining the ways technology and connectivity are hacking our daily lives, and altering the codes that we live by. Production wise, Fite embraced the limitlessness of virtual instrumentation to create complex yet melodic beats to compliment his poetic social commentary. A few stand out elements of this project include: • a limited edition series of hand made glass “Phonies.” • a Brooklyn storefront turned into a giant smart-phone. • alternative digital-music monetization strategies such as the sale of advertising space and personal shout outs in songs. • a body of songs that are wickedly insightful and often laugh out loud funny - wrestling with subject matter ranging from the at nauseum action of online “liking” ("Like"), smart-phone addiction ("Check Yo Cell"), the cult of macintosh products ("Big Mac"), the binge-watching epidemic (4 Seasons), and plenty more. In this digital age where content is king, Fite is a cunning court jester, artfully hacking the hand that “feeds” him. If you have ever questioned your relationship with technology, look to iBeenHACKED on October 7, 2014 for an answer. * Called a “cultural gadfly” by the New York Times and “ferally original” by the New Yorker, Fite has spent the last 6 years releasing genre-bending pieces of art and music through Anti- Records (Nick Cave, Neko Case, Tom Waits) and independently through his website timfite.com. Fite has toured the country and the world with the likes of Bonaparte, Brooklyn Phiharmonic, Man Man, My Bright- est Diamond, Les Claypool, The Hold Steady, Ben Kweller, Azure Ray, Watson Twins and more.
