On May 23, I released my very 1st gospel album, Still. This album is loaded with gospel greats, contemporary tunes and original songs. I'd like to offer you a free song - O Beautiful Mother - was sung at my parents wedding 54 years ago and I'd like to you to have it. With the success of Hallelujah from my previous album, Tomorrow, which was the 2012 Music PEI Country Recording of the Year, I had been hearing from many folks who wanted more gospel music. It wasn’t until I was faced with a significant health scare and nine weeks in the hospital in 2012 (Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s - the jury’s still out on that one) that the little nudge I’d been feeling about doing a gospel album turned into a giant shove. So after 11 months of illness and recovery, I began putting songs together for this album. There are 12 tracks on Still, most of which have a deep meaning for me. While in the hospital, a friend told me that I would write a song about this experience. It took a while, but “My Soul to Keep” was written. An old gospel standard, “I Surrender All”, came to hold great meaning and was the first song I sang in public once out of the hospital at an emotional Sunday service at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Belfast (this church is the cover of the album). “This is Me” is an autobiographical song about addiction and recovery. There are stories behind almost every song and you can read those on my website at www.kelleymooney.com. Recorded at Jon Matthews’ The Sound Mill and co-produced by Jon & I (Jon also provides backing vocals, plays guitar, drums, bass and accordion), this album features many local greats. Featured on the album are Richard Wood, Joey Kitson, Johnny Ross, Thomas Webb, Chris Corrigan, Deryl Gallant, Kirk White, Troy Engle of Nashville and more. Also featured is the Eliot River Grades 5 & 6 Honours Choir under the direction of their music teacher and my sister, Kim Mooney. Still was released at Trinity United Church where, incidentally, I was ½ hour late for my own wedding!. The turnout was incredible - over 600 people! Admission was food items for the food bank and we raised 1800 pound of food and $400 for the Food Bank!
