Studio30 & Melo D Name: Melvin Fox - AKA: Melo D - Residence: Derby / Leeds Name: Julian 'Jay' Holden (Studio30) - Residence: Derby Melvin Fox aka Melo D has grown up playing music since the age of 17 years when he joined established Derby band Home Grown Roots, a 5 piece reggae band as bass player performing in local clubs in and around Derby. Home Grown Roots later reformed with another local rival band named Addiction and formally renamed themselves ' Crystal Image’. During the 80’ and 90’s his singing talent was becoming established and not just locally, entertaining & singing over local sound systems. One particular encounter was entering a talent contest hosted by V Rocket Sound from Nottingham and David Rodigan, competing with the legendary 'Taxman'-(Fatal Attraction) and beating him in the final. At the age of 21, Melo D joined established band Junior C Reaction as bass player, touring universities all over the England. One of his greatest opportunities was when the lead singer, the late Errol Cowell gave him a 2 song slot to open the shows just before him, with inspirational feedback and write up’s in the local newspaper and radio gave Melo-D that little more to pursue his singing venture. Melo D performed some backing vocals on the hit Better Must Come where Junior C Reaction were signed up by Guy Moot of Chrysalis Records and introduced into the National charts in 1986. After the death of Errol Cowell, Melo D then decided to work independently as a solo artist During this time he has supported artist such as Peter Hunningale, Lloyd Brown Don Campbell Ozzy Gad (natural Ites) Vivien Jones, Janet Kay, Carol Thompson, Mike Anthony, Peter Spence Chris Ellis and many more. Melo D launched a few singles one of which featured Daddy Freddy who invited him to perform on a several of his shows. In October 2012 Melo D was interviewed on one of Leeds local radio stations Peoples fm, by Red Rose and The Fox, there was definitely support for Melo from the Yorkshire people and much encouragement. After the interview Red Rose sign posted and introduced him to Jenny Samuels from Birmingham, who helped in the refining of his musical abilities hence developing him into a much more sought after artist. Melo-D (AKA Mr Fox) a primary school teacher by day would share his evenings of marking children's books with making quality rhythms which were recognised and produced by the brother of the legendary 'Steelie and Cleavie' - Mr Browne. There he briefly worked with the manager of Dennis Lloyd (DL Productions) until he finally teamed up in partnership with Julian 'Jay' Holden (Studio30) where he produced his latest lovers releases '2 Wrongs' & 'Natural High' both of which have had national airplay and very well recieved. Melo-D's experience for entertaining is apparent when performing live, his penetrating lovers vibes is amorously welcomed by the ladies and his consciously written lyrics, the men can also relate to. Very little is known of Julian 'Jay' Holden as a private man his works tells its own story. Having worked with the likes of Aswad & Mad Professor and many more up & coming artists, has a strong reputation for his production skills and his skills as a musician / producer / engineer at home & abroad in many genre's of music. The best place to catch up with Julian 'Jay' Holden is in his Studio where it is like seeing a scientist in his lab and is an experience to see. This is by far one of the strongest musical relationships to come to the fore front in the UK music scene in many a year. Studio30 & Melo D
