Ali Jamieson from London has been an artist we have been very excited about for quite a while now. A producer with a real ear for the sort of overly motivational chord progression of 80s pop fused with the thick percussion of modern progressive house. It has been a long wait but his "Bitrman" EP is now with us. The title track, Bitrman, really sums up Ali's modus operandi as well as setting the tone for the entire release. Its warm, its chords and pads wrapping you in their lushness, while its 80's stadium-rock drum kit thrashes it's crash cymbals and hi-hats with gay abandon. Mr Lobster works as a coda to the first track, this time focusing on the rhythm section. It's chugging bass and staple snare sound, house essentials, roll on at a constant pace while a cafe del mar piano tickles in the background and airy synths paint the higher frequencies. Finally Panasonic brings the whole record to a filtered finished, swelling and cutting like the french-house greats while a heavy as lead drum sound punctuates the groove with a snare so harsh it generates sparks! The entire record is a carefree, warm and cool summer soundtrack. Simple on the surface, yet most exercises in complexity normally operate under this guise. Ali's meticulous attention to detail in his tracks elevate them from their genre conceptions into flourishing audio soundscapes that, like your favourite holiday novel, are just too easy to get lost in.
