Bach String Drum

Bach String Drum

简介

This arrangement of the Bach C Major Cello Suite was reimagined as a percussion ensemble - the cello part being played on marimba accompanied by 3 to 5 people playing a wide variety of drums and other percussion instruments. In this recital version the cello part is being played on viola by George Taylor and the percussion parts have been reduced to one djembe and one conga played by Eric Kivnick. The pitches and melodic shapes and harmonies are Bach, but the meters, tempi, and rhythmic structures are drastically altered. In sections of the Courante and Bourrees we hear viola lines written by Mr. Kivnick as countermelodies to the corresponding altered versions of the Bach melodies. Mr. Taylor’s uniquely broad and deep musical experience allows him to play these pieces with love and respect for the Bach of it, as well as fun and swing for the odd meter groove of it. Thank goodness for his indomitable energy, soaring spirit and constant internal scenario.
